Woodland Mammals
The woodlands or savanna habitat is widespread and variable and is home to a wide range of mammals. Many of these mammals are hard to see and in recent years research has shown we have some real problems with our mammal populations in the Top End. Fire management and feral animals are two of the biggest issues facing many of these mammals. Especially the small mammals have undergone a rapid decline in recent years. The cause of this decline is uncertain but fire regimes and feral cats and cane toads are thought to be major causes, probably all working against our native species in a combined manner.
