Rocky Hills

The hills and escarpment edges are remnants of once great mountains formed billions of years ago.  Around Batchelor are some of the oldest known rocks on Earth.  Some of these systems have had other moutains laid over the top by more "recent" geological events, millions of year ago. The mountains have since weathered and eroded to what we see today, with the mass of those hills now sitting as the alluvial material of our floodplains and coastal areas.
