The Floodplains are very productive places. The water and soils combine with algaes and other nutrients brought in by the floods to drive an amazing variey and volume of life. This was noted by the early explorers such as Ludwig Leichardt who commented on the large numbers of Aboriginal people living in the floodplains areas of Kakadu, several thousand people. Food resources were available for willife and people at different times of the year and in the Dry Seson people congregated around these food resources.
