Rock Art
The Rock art of the Kakadu Region is some of the best in the world and the oldest. There are stunning galleries in many locations and the Galleries at Ubirr and Nourlangie show of the wonderful art and reveal elements of the stories they tell. The art tells many stories from the Aboriginal people's culture but also reveals aspects of the changing climate. In some galleries the older art reflects life in a saltwater environment from a time when the wetlands of Kakadu were a salt water environment. The newer art over the top of the older art reflects a freshwater environment. On can only wonder at the changes in lifestyle and the surrounding environment for plants, animals and people as these changes took place but they must have been dramatic!
